Publicis Sapient CEO Nigel Vaz discusses AI & Human Skills Synergy and compares it to Iron Man. Explore the possibilities for AI transformation.
In an interview with PTI, the top boss of the Digital Transformation Arm of Publicis Groupe (one of the world's largest advertising companies) emphasizes the need for companies to invest in both people and digital tools to maximize the potential of advanced technology.
Vaz cites analogies such as Iron Man and Jarvis to show how human abilities and advanced technology can combine to create powerful, transformative superhero-type synergy in AI adoption.
“To me, this ingenuity, this idea of human ability to match with incredible technology is a bit similar to the way we think about AI today. This requires you to effectively invest and develop people, and you have to do it with them.
Iron Man is the alter ego of Marvel comics superhero and genius billionaire inventor Tony Stark, who creates a powerful armored suit to save his life and protect the world.
Vaz spoke of the remarkable childhood struggle with fine motor skills, which are considered the basis of all traditional methods of learning.
“So, writing was very difficult for me, like I had a pen,” he recalls.
The turning point came when he began navigating his way on a computer. The computer is the medium that allowed him to express himself and ultimately helped him unlock his true potential.
“For me, computer discovery has completely changed that dynamic. So, because you can't write, you can enter into fluent, you can express your ideas, give your ideas, and you can give them ideas, and all of the sudden people may be this child,” he said.
Vaz soon realized that things like the comic book heroes he idolised, Iron Man and Batman, had ordinary people turned superheroes through the power of technology.
“I'm excited and I'm definitely an optimist,” he says of his belief in the power of technology to change the world.
As to whether AI will lead to layoffs, he said: “Technology has always done it (disturbed work), and now AI is doing it at a faster pace.

“… a child who might not have been able to afford a tutor. Now you can teach math at your own pace in a way that is learned in a safe space, and that's easy for anyone to access,” he said.
Vaz believes that the “confusion” of the AI era will bring “great opportunities.”
“So it's going to be confusion, but there will be a big opportunity, which makes me very excited,” he said.
