Hong Kong Special Administrative Region – – May 26, 2026 – What sparks fly when the elegance of traditional antiques meets the cutting-edge technologies of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (XR)? The series of events “Robert Chang AI x XR Digital Arts Education Program” organized by Shin Tak Fraternal Association Yung Yau College and sponsored by Robert Chang Art Education Charitable Foundation has successfully concluded. Home Affairs and Youth Affairs Secretary Alice Mak was the guest host at the recent Achievement Exhibition held at the Hong Kong Arts Center. She joined elites in the fields of education, art, innovation, and technology to witness how middle school students are using technology to pass on Chinese culture.
Dialogue across the centuries: Giving new life to antiques with AI
A project in honor of Robert Chan Chung Hsien20 legendary collectorsth century. Mr. Chan devoted his life to promoting Chinese art internationally and helped Christie’s establish itself in Hong Kong. Yung Yau College embraces the spirit of innovative education and infuses Mr. Chan’s philosophy of “passion for learning and innovation” into STEAM education.
Nearly 1,000 teachers and students from 40 primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong participated in the competition. Participants went beyond textbook knowledge and learned the application of AI image generation and XR platforms through more than 10 “STREAM workshops” hosted by Yung Yau College. The finalists received tutoring from sculptor Ban Zhang Zhe and learned how to apply “antique” coloring and textures to 3D printed models, transforming digital virtual art into physical art creation.

At the award ceremony, she said that while the path of innovation and technology is full of challenges, it also holds endless possibilities. She hoped that the students would study hard, maintain their enthusiasm for science and the spirit of innovation, and contribute to the innovation and technological development of not only Hong Kong but also the nation in the future.

Technology connects with emotion: Student work reflects global concerns
Among the winning entries, there were many students who showed a human interest that transcended their age. Zhuang Eric, a member of Yung Yau College’s winning team, shared his creative journey and said that the inspiration for his work came from his feelings about the world situation. “We envisioned a vision of ‘peace and joy’ in the image of rubble. The most difficult test was not technical, but ‘resonance’ between team members. Through countless collaborations, we merged the texture of ruins with a common imagination of the city of the future.” Zhuang, who also serves as a lecturer, deeply felt that the spirit of his work resonated and was affirmed when he interacted with the audience.

Art and technology know no borders: virtual museums break through the limits of time and space
The four-day exhibition at Hong Kong Arts Center’s Pao Gallery was a success, attracting nearly 600 visitors, including tourists, educators, and special school students and teachers. One of the highlights of the exhibition is “Chan” Chung HsienA “virtual museum of antiques and artifacts” that uses modern technology to reinterpret patterns and historical symbols on artifacts. To promote inclusion of people with and without disabilities and to disseminate art-based technology education, tactile exhibits and guided tours for students were also provided to accommodate a diverse range of visitors.
Shin Tak Fraternal Association Yung Yau College said the project well reflects the government’s “Youth Development Blueprint” and not only expands students’ creative horizons, but also proves that AI and XR technology can act as a bridge between tradition and future, injecting new and vibrant ideas into Chinese culture. Our school will continue to develop young people with “international perspectives, dedication to the nation, and creative thinking.”
