Ahead of NAB Show 2023, Adobe announced several new features to its video editing software Premiere Pro. According to the company, the new text-based editing brings “a whole new way of editing that makes rough cuts as easy as copying and pasting text.”
Text-based editing in Premiere Pro, powered by Adobe Sensei, uses AI to automatically transcribe your source media. Instead of looking at hours of footage to find the right sound bites, you can now skim the transcript, search for keywords, add them to your timeline and start rough cuts.

According to Adobe, once you have a few clips on your timeline, you can copy and paste phrases in the sequenced transcript and watch your timeline edits automatically change to match. The company calls the text-based editing feature like having a “kirigami” of your transcript.
Additionally, Adobe Premiere Pro adds automatic tome mapping. This makes it easy to work with different media and color spaces in the same timeline without the need for LUTs or custom color settings.
Adore Premiere Pro also adds autosaving in the background. This allows you to save your backup as a work without interrupting your work. There is also support for new formats such as ARRI, RED and GPU acceleration.
In addition to these features, new language support in Speech to Text brings the captioning toolset in Premiere Pro to 18 languages around the world, speaking Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, and Swedish. Collaborative editing updates make it easier to collaborate with other editors on the same project.
According to Adobe, many of these features have been released in recent updates, including automatic tone mapping for Premiere Pro. Other features such as text-based editing and background autosave are currently in public beta and will be released in May.
