The Australian Union Council will require employers to ensure workers' job security before introducing artificial intelligence into their businesses ahead of the Albanese government's productivity roundtable next month. sauce: age.
Council Assistant Joseph Mitchell uses today's speech to send a message that he hopes the union movement will push forward with legislation banning the use of AI in businesses that cannot reach agreement with employees.
“To ensure that this bad faith use of this technology is protected, we need to have comprehensive AI laws,” Mitchell said in a speech to the University of Melbourne's Productivity Flash Forum.
“Workers will be everything if they know that doing so doesn't cost their jobs.”
The business group argues that artificial intelligence presents billions of dollars in opportunities for Australia to increase productivity, allowing workers to be relocated to more advanced jobs, and seeking safeguards that do not interfere with technology intake.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers hopes to hold a roundtable meeting from August 19th to 21st to address Australia's flatline productivity and generate ideas for economic reform.
A similar summit hosted by the Albanese government at the start of its first term contributed to the laws of key union priorities, including labor organisations negotiating with multiple employers and disrupting business groups.
The federal government announced last year that it would legislate to address the use of AI in high-risk environments, but has yet to bring the law to Congress.
Alysia Blackham, an employment law expert at the University of Melbourne, says that because AI is not yet mature, it has achieved early and risk-free, inefficient results for AI.
