Karachi:
Singer, actor and visual artist Ali Zafar has released a visually striking music video for his song ‘Sidat’ from his album ‘Roshni’, transforming one of his original paintings from 2002 into an AI-generated cinematic experience.
This artwork, created during a year of graduate studies at the National University of Arts, forms the emotional and visual foundation of the video. Directed by Fawaz Rehan and Ayelah Asim, the project uses artificial intelligence virtual production to animate the world it depicts, fusing art, music and digital storytelling.
The video explores themes of love, longing, memory, and emotional isolation, placing viewers inside a surreal moving canvas. All frames were generated using AI technology while attempting to preserve the original texture and feel of the paintings from decades ago.
Commenting on the project, Ali Zafar said art remains “sacred” because it always changes meaning over time and according to personal growth and interpretation. He explained that the painting behind ‘Shiddat’ was created when he was an art student, long before he entered mainstream music and film.
Zafar says that when the directors approached him with the concept, he was immediately intrigued by the idea of stepping into the world of painting. “What you see in this video is their interpretation of that work of art, fused with one of the most intense songs from my album Roshni,” he said.
This release is one of the most ambitious visual projects of Ali Zafar’s career, reconnecting his parallel identities as a painter, musician, and storyteller while reflecting the growing influence of AI tools in contemporary art and music production.
