Apple and OpenAI have been in talks to advance a deal that could bring ChatGPT-generated AI technology to iOS 18 updates.
This was revealed in a detailed report released late Friday. However, the report claims that Apple and OpenAI are “finalizing the terms” for using ChatGPT on iOS 18. apple insider.
Meanwhile, Apple is also said to be in talks with Google about another artificial intelligence technology, Gemini, but it's not very clear how far those talks have progressed.
Regardless of whether Bloomberg's Friday report hints at a possible deal, all of this seems to be related to Apple's rumored overall strategy to offer an AI App Store.
The company is rumored to have plans to outsource LLM to established giants like Google, while also offering smaller, on-device models of its own design.
Apple also aims to use on-device processing as a big plus point for customers. This was highlighted somewhat by Apple's comments at the recent iPad event. During the event, the company said it has been shipping devices with AI hardware optimizations for years.
Therefore, Apple may emerge with its own AI technology.
