According to AppViewX, the machine identity to human ratio has reached 144 to 1, and this change has prompted the company to release new tools to manage the rapidly expanding number of non-human digital entities. AppViewX now supports hybrid composite post-quantum cryptography (PQC) certificates, allowing organizations to begin their transition to quantum-secure cryptography without overhauling their existing infrastructure. This move is consistent with broader government efforts to protect systems from advanced cryptographic attacks, recently strengthened by the White House’s Executive Order 14412. Hybrid PQC certificates enable gradual quantum transition

The growing dominance of machine identities over human identities, now at a 144-to-1 ratio, is fundamentally changing the scale of the digital security challenge and requiring new approaches to certificate lifecycle management. AppViewX responded by introducing support for hybrid composite post-quantum cryptography (PQC) certificates. It is designed to facilitate a gradual transition to quantum-proof security without an immediate disruptive overhaul of existing infrastructure. These hybrid certificates combine traditional cryptographic algorithms such as RSA and ECC with ML-DSA post-quantum algorithms, allowing organizations to begin preparing for the quantum era while maintaining compatibility with legacy systems. This approach does more than simply provide a new cryptographic method. This includes the entire certificate hierarchy spanning root certificates, intermediate certificates, and end entity certificates within the AppViewX PKI framework. AppViewX also addresses the industry movement toward more agile certificate management, specifically targeting 47-day certificate validity periods in accordance with government directives.

The company’s new capabilities facilitate this modernization by enabling PQC during Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) migrations, streamlining PKI modernization, and enhancing cryptographic agility through integrated initiatives. Risk assessment using the CMDB helps you further prioritize your migration efforts by focusing on the areas with the greatest business impact. At the heart of this modernization is the AppViewX Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which enables AI agents to autonomously manage certificates. The MCP server exposes certificate lifecycle operations as structured actions that AI agents can invoke to trigger requests and renewals based on expiration dates or policy events.

This automation is managed by your existing security policies and provides audit-ready logging of all agent actions to ensure compliance and accountability. A recent customer story highlighted how AppViewX helped enterprises modernize their certificate lifecycle management, allowing organizations to prepare for the transition to these shorter certificate lifecycles after years of manual processes and outages. “AI agents are expanding the crypto attack surface at the very moment we need quantum resistance,” said Paul Trulove, chief product officer at AppViewX.
