Over the past year, Google has added new AI-powered features to Google Photos, continuing its trend of cramming generative AI into as many aspects of its hardware and software business as possible. That continues today with the addition of Video Remix.
Video Remix leverages the company’s Gemini Omni model to apply various AI-generated looks and edits to video clips. Google says its goal is to make it easier for the average user to create something worth sharing, even without video editing knowledge.
“Creating beautiful video clips doesn’t require specialized skills or hours of editing,” Google says in a new blog post. “Video Remix in Google Photos lets you turn ordinary videos into share-worthy moments with just a few taps. Video Remix lets you create stylized, imaginative memories from a library of easy-to-use templates.”
Video Remix is available in Google Photos.[作成]tab, joining previous features such as the ability to turn images into 6-second videos and expanded functionality that allows users to create clips with custom prompts and audio.
This new AI tool appears to be building image-to-video functionality directly, with similar results. Google touted the image conversion tool as being able to make “friends, family, and even pets” look “like anime, manga, sketches, or 3D animation.” The results of the Video Remix tool have a similar feel.
“Video Remix helps you create inspired content in seconds. Instantly apply cinematic relighting to spruce up dark clips, replace plain backgrounds with fun ones, and add artistic treatments like watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting effects,” Google adds.
The new tools appear alongside other creation features such as AI-powered creation, remixes, collages, highlight videos, cinematic photos, animations, and other AI-powered options.
Google Photos Video Remix is rolling out today to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in a limited number of countries: the United States, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
