Doha, July 08 (QNA) – Katara Cultural Village, in collaboration with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, along with Islam Online, organized the 30th Katara Technical Forum in Doha.
The panel discussion was dedicated to discussing the theme of artificial intelligence in Islamic Sharia provisions. A group of Sharia science, technology and media experts gathered together.
The panel discussion was moderated by Mouad Yusuf Al Qasimi, Head of Awqaf’s Religious Instruction Section, and was attended by various officials and experts with expertise in information technology and religious instruction.
Dr. Idris Ahmed Tijani, an expert in jurisprudence and its principles and a legal researcher, has considered this issue and presented a streamlined image of the prominent practical application of AI in the Sharia domain.
He outlined a realistic model for leveraging state-of-the-art technology for fatwas, accessing Sharia sources, and supporting scientific research, stressing the operation of these tools in line with scientific and Sharia regulations that ensure the credibility of content and never ignore the role of experts.
Dr. Tijani highlighted the AI’s experience in analyzing and evaluating Friday sermons by not only extracting themes, verses, and hadiths, but also converting Friday sermons into digital text and decompressing its content, while maintaining human review as a fundamental pillar for validating results, and creating evaluation reports according to rigorous scientific standards.
His primer further highlighted IslamOnline’s experience in digital transformation and investments in AI-powered technology aimed at upgrading its semantic search engine and facilitating access to trusted religious content.
This primer reviews the performance and growth indicators achieved by the website’s digital platform in the first half of 2026, reflecting the expanding scope of digital Islamic content and the increasing reliance on smart solutions in the dissemination of knowledge.
The panel discussion that followed this primer featured rich conversations between the panelists and delved into a number of topics, chief among them being the use of AI in Shari’a fatwas and elucidating Friday sermons, alongside the role of AI in the development of Islamic content.
Panelists delved further into the impact of AI on visual media, discussing the opportunities these emerging technologies bring to Shariah science, challenges around accuracy and reliability, and the importance of establishing regulatory frameworks that ensure the responsible use of Shariah and these technologies.
Panelists emphasized that AI is an assistive tool that helps speed up browsing and knowledge management, improving access to information.
However, they pointed out that it cannot replace scholars and legal reasoning in Islamic law, stressing that human oversight remains the core source in expressing fatwas and creating religious content. (QNA)
