Box CEO Aaron Levie: Three sectors where work grows for AI

AI For Business

There is a lot of fear about AI being replaced by human workers, but Box CEO Aaron Levie isn't worried.

He said it was one of the biggest misconceptions about AI.

While there may be fewer workers needed for a particular role, Levy said that AI productivity could grow faster and lead to “actually hiring more people either with that function or other function.”

In fact, the CEO of Cloud Storage told Business Insider that he believes demand is growing due to the advent of AI tools. He said the need for human workers in some sectors will increase as AI increases efficiency. Levy said the job might not disappear just because it can automate tasks.

“That means that demand for services in the area could actually explode as a result of making the space more efficient,” Levy said.

He added that the role that thrives in the AI era is one that requires personal relationships and deep expertise.

“These are years from what AI agents can't or can't automate,” Levy said.

One sector that Levie predicts will be more important is sales. While the first emails sent about new products or campaigns could be automated, he said that interested customers would like to talk to people and learn more.

“You know you can really trust people to interact with someone and do what they say they're trying to do,” Levy said.

This is in line with the 2024 Business Insider Analysis of Highly Payable Jobs that are expected to grow, based on employment forecasts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The sales manager was ranked 20th on the list and was expected to increase by 29,000 by 2034.

Similarly, if someone needs an attorney to handle a patent or some sort of dispute, they may resort to AI agents to answer questions and get immediate feedback, Levy said. But when it comes to making an actual decision, it is likely that the person wants final advice on the situation from a real person, Levy said.

“You'd want a domain expert,” Levy said.

Levy added that it is likely that roles like paralegal will not disappear either. They can become more productive with tasks like contract reviews and take on more work.

health care

The healthcare industry is another sector where Levy predicts that he needs more workers. Levy said AI can help people get faster answers to medical questions.

“It allows us to go to more doctors,” Levy said. “These physicians are more efficient so they can see more patients.”

Ultimately, that would lead to a need for more doctors, Levy said.
