US President Donald Trump on Tuesday shared a video generated by another AI targeting minority leader Hicombe Jeffries hours before the federal government was shut down, further highlighting the political disparities in Washington.The latest clip posted on Trump's Truth social accounts shows footage from Jeffries' MSNBC interview, denounces the previous fake video. In the modified version, Trump once again added a digitally imposed mustache and sombrero to Jeffries, performing Mariachi's music in the background. The video features four portrayals of the president playing Mariachi music, as Jeffries speaks.It came the day after Trump first circulated the Ai-Olted video of Jeffries and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer outside the White House. The clip exaggerated Jeffries and exaggerated mustaches in the sombrero while Mariachi's music was being played, but Schumer was digitally altered with audio that was mistakenly portrayed as attacking Democrats as unpopular, saying, “Even black people don't want to vote for us,” and saying, “Black people don't want to vote anymore.” Jeffries accused the video as “biased” and “nasty” attacks, and in an interview with MSNBC, he said it was a distraction from governance.At a House Democrat press conference on Tuesday, Jeffries challenged Trump directly. Afterwards, talking again about MSNBC, he added: “We need an individual from the US president who is actually focused on doing his job, rather than engage in racist and biased stereotypes designed to deflect us on behalf of the American people or as Democrats.”The deepfake controversy has failed a late-night deadline, leading to the government's closure for the first time since 2019 amid stagnating negotiations over a government fundraising bill.Despite the White House encounters between Trump, Jeffreys, Schumer, Senate majority leader John Tune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, both sides remain deeply divided, particularly around health policies related to immigration benefits.
