Machine learning and AI expert Dennis Zhang partners with Compass Lexec

WASHINGTON, June 8, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Compass Lexecon, a subsidiary of FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN), today announced that Dennis Chan, professor of operations and marketing at Washington University in St. Louis Olin School of Business, has joined the company.

Professor Zhang is an expert in the economics of machine learning, AI-powered business tools, digital platforms, online marketplaces, retail, and advertising. His research focuses on how companies use data, algorithms, experimentation, and market design to shape consumer behavior, supplier incentives, and platform performance. We also conduct extensive empirical research on advertising effectiveness, pricing, online education, retail operations, marketplace design, and platform governance.

Professor Zhang’s recent research explores the economic impact of generative AI, including the impact of AI-driven search on content platforms and how agent coding tools impact developer productivity and competition in the iOS app market. We also used large-scale field experiments to study how privacy features and diversity of recommender systems can be designed to improve user welfare and platform performance.

Professor Zhang’s research has been published in leading academic journals and presented at top machine learning conferences. He is Area Editor for Machine Learning and Data Science. operations research and as an associate editor business administration, marketing science, Manufacturing and service operations management,and Marketing Research Journal. His work is featured below new york timesNPR, and gloves and mail. Prior to his academic career, Professor Zhang worked at Google.
