Zelda Williams wants to clarify one thing. She is not interested in watching AI-generated videos of her late father, Robin Williams. The director posted a strong-worded Instagram story on Monday, denounced social media trends. There, people used AI-Generators to create videos of famous people who died.
“Stop sending dad's AI videos,” writes Williams. “Don't believe that I want to see it or I want to understand, I don't, don't believe that I won't. If you're trying to troll me, I see something worse, I limit and move on. But if you stop doing it to him and me, it's stupid, it's a waste of time and energy, trust me.”
Calling the video “gross” and “madness,” she continued. “You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hot dogs from human life, from the history of art and music.
Williams concluded by denounceing the idea of artificial intelligence. “And for the love of everything, stop calling it the “future,” AI is only recycled and regurgitating so badly to reabsorb the past. You are incorporating human content centipedes.
Filmmakers previously opposed the use of father's voices for AI in 2023. This was one of the biggest concerns during the SAG-AFTRA strike when recreating a person's image or voice without approval.
“I am not a fair voice in the SAG battle with AI,” she wrote at the time. “For years I've seen the number of people who want to train these models to create/recreate actors like Dad, who don't agree with. This is not theoretical, it's very realistic.”
