TL;DR
- YouTube Premium members in the US can now try out the new “Jump Ahead” feature on the platform.
- Use AI to help you jump to parts of your video that most viewers would normally skip ahead.
- This feature only works on the YouTube Android app and is only available for some English videos.
YouTube is now rolling out its new AI-powered “Jump Ahead” feature more broadly. The platform began testing the feature in March, and it's now available as a benefit for YouTube Premium subscribers.
Jump Ahead lets you skip to the best part of a video by combining user data and AI to predict what you want to watch. This feature was previously only available to some Premium users in the US, but is now available for trial to all YouTube Premium members through youtube.com/new. Currently, this feature only works in the US YouTube Android app and is only available for English-language videos.
Since this is an experimental feature, YouTube says you can only try it until June 1st. After the deadline, the platform may officially roll out this feature as part of its premium subscription or extend the experiment further.
How do I use Jump Ahead with YouTube?
After opting into the experiment, you can double-tap on the video in question to skip forward and a “jump forward” button will appear. Clicking the button will take you to a place that most viewers would normally skip. YouTube says not all videos will support this feature yet.
