YouTube brings more AI tools for video makers
NEW YORK, September 17, 2025 (BSS/AFP) – YouTube on Tuesday said it has paid more than $100 billion to content makers over the past four years, boosting the creators' artificial intelligence tools.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan promoted AI as “evolution” aimed at enhancing creativity and storytelling with a video sharing service founded in early 2005 by former PayPal employees Chad Hurley, Jawed Karim and Steve Chen.
YouTube has become the world's most popular free online video service with billions of users since its purchase by Google in 2006.
“The new AI-powered products will shape the next 20 years,” Mohan said at an event in New York City.
However, Mohan argued that “these are tools, nothing more,” and that it would not replace the creator's role.
They are “designed to cultivate human creativity,” he said.
In one example, Google Deepmind Labs' VEO Video Generation AI is integrated into YouTube, enabling features such as easily creating backgrounds for “short pants” posted to feeds that compete with Tiktok and Instagram reels.
“New features with VEO allow you to move, apply Restyle videos and add props to your scene,” said Johanna Voolich, YouTube's Chief Product Officer, in a blog post.
AI also allows creators to turn raw footage into draft video content or enable dialogue to be converted into songs on the soundtrack, Voolich added.
Also, with the new AI tool, the creator combines photos and videos, making it essentially as if the person depicted is a working person.
Podcasts are also focused, allowing producers to use AI in new tools to create video versions of what began as audio broadcasts.
The translation feature not only translates what is said in the video, but also relies on AI to make the subject seem as if he is actually speaking the language.
And to combat the surge in deepfakes online, YouTube has promised that “portrait detection tools” will soon be available in beta-test format.
