Accounting software company Xero and artificial intelligence company Anthropic have announced a multi-year agreement that will add AI tools to the accounting software giant’s tools.
The agreement will allow Xero to integrate Anthropic’s Claude AI system directly into its platform, allowing Xero customers to use their financial data within Claude’s interface.
The companies say the aim is to provide small and medium-sized businesses and their accountants with real-time, actionable financial insights.
Diya Jolly, chief product and technology officer at Xero, said small business owners routinely grapple with questions about tight cash flow and overdue invoices, and the Anthropic integration is designed to help answer these questions in seconds.
“To run their businesses efficiently, small business owners and their accountants and bookkeepers need to be able to answer and act on these questions in real time, whether they use Xero or Claude,” she said.
Xero said the AI tool allows businesses to spend less time tracking invoices, manually creating reports, or forecasting cash flow as Claude proactively uncovers insights and recommended actions.
The company also emphasized that the partnership falls within its commitment to responsible data use, and that financial information shared between platforms will only be used for customer sessions and not for training Claude’s AI models.
Jolly said the Claude integration will move Xero further into an “agent workflow,” where the AI assistant JAX (Just Ask Xero) will be able to predict cash flow gaps and perform more complex financial tasks on behalf of users.
Chris Ciauli, Anthropic Managing Director, International, said the tool gives small and medium-sized businesses access to the type of financial intelligence that previously required a dedicated analyst or chief financial officer.
“Instead of customers spending hours trying to understand their financials on top of everything they need to do to run their business, they can get clear answers and recommended actions in real time,” he said.
Xero and Anthropic plan to roll out new Claude features in the coming months.
