WWE and AAA come under fire for use of AI after AEW logo appears on video packaging

AI Video & Visuals

Over the weekend, Lucha Libre AAA shared a video package of Dominik Mysterio promoting him as one of the new faces of AAA.

The promo features animated footage of Dom defeating John Cena with the help of Liv Morgan to regain the Intercontinental Championship. Fans quickly criticized the use of AI on social media, calling it “AI slop.”

“A wrestling company (or any company) with a national TV contract should not be using AI in their graphic design. This was a totally avoidable mistake,” one fan wrote.

“They just needed to use promos and existing clips. There was no need for an AI slop considering existing clips from WWE and AAA shows were used to generate this,” said another. “It would have been cheaper to use the original footage than to generate slop like this.”

Not only is it painfully obvious that AI was used to generate the sketch-like video, but there’s one point where one title is completely replaced by a rival company in WWE, with the AEW World Championship at his hip. In another example, the WWE logo on the turnbuckle is replaced with the PlayStation logo.

This isn’t the first time WWE has come under fire for its use of AI. Last fall, there were rumors that WWE was considering using AI for storylines, but this turned out to be somewhat false.

As of this writing, the video has generated over 700,000 impressions and has not yet been removed.

How close is Dominik Mysterio to returning to WWE?

Dom injured his shoulder during a AAA event, but he is still the IC Champion and AAA Mega Champion. Reportedly, he will not need surgery and will return to the team sooner rather than later.

“He’s at home resting. He’s recovering. We’re just playing it safe. At the end of the day, he’s our double champion,” Morgan said on the “Raw Recap” podcast. “We’re protecting and living up to Papa Dom because he’s the crown jewel of Judgment Day at this point. We’re just playing it safe with him, and he’ll be right back.”
