WWDC 2025: Xcode26 adds ChatGPT integration, support for other AI models

AI News

The Xcode 26 was announced by Apple at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 on Monday. The next major update to the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for building apps for the Apple platform is gaining key artificial intelligence (AI) features. Cupertino-based Tech Giant integrates Openai's ChatGPT into the app development suite, allowing users to assist with a wide range of coding-related tasks. Additionally, users can also access other AI models using third-party provider application programming interfaces (APIs).

Xcode 26 comes with AI features

In a blog post, Tech Giant detailed what's new in Xcode 26. The biggest inclusion in an IDE is the option of using an AI model to code tasks. Apple has added ChatGpt to Xcode, developers using ChatBot to write code, run tests, file documents, fix bugs, and more. In particular, users can access the free tier of ChatGpt without the need to create an account. However, paid subscribers can also connect their accounts with higher rate limits.

If developers don't like using Openai's chatbots, you can also add other AI models using the API keys of these companies. Additionally, people with MAC devices with Apple silicon can also run local AI models to code tasks in Xcode.

Apple is also adding AI-powered coding tools to Xcode. These tools can be accessed while developers are writing or editing code, and can provide recommended actions such as generating previews (or playgrounds), fixing bugs and errors, and handling specific prompts for other inline tasks.

Separately, Xcode 26 also introduces a redesigned navigation experience, improved support for voice control, and an enhanced localization catalog.

Tech Giant also adds AI capabilities to APINTENTS. The framework allows developers to define actions that can be triggered in system apps such as SIRIs, spotlights, and shortcuts. With Xcode 26, Apple is adding support for visual intelligence for App Intent.

This allows developers to leverage AI technology to enable their apps to deliver visual search results. This means that if a user is looking for objects using visual intelligence, they will see results related to supported apps. This is particularly useful for ecommerce apps, but can also be used in other category apps in certain scenarios. In particular, Etsy adds support for AI features via APP Intent.
