DOE-EM is currently overseeing the remediation of the Paducah site for beneficial reuse. The Paducah Gas Diffusion Plant enriched uranium from 1952 to 2013 and was the last government-owned uranium enrichment facility in operation in the United States.
According to DOE-EM, applicants are responsible for the construction, operation, and decommissioning of each infrastructure project and must secure a utility interconnection agreement. Proposals will be evaluated for technical readiness, financial viability, and detailed plans for completing regulatory and permitting requirements.
A.I.E.O.According to DOE-EM, this recruitment is part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to advance America’s leadership in AI and is in line with the President’s Executive Orders to “Remove Barriers to America’s Leadership in Artificial Intelligence,” “Unleash America’s Energy,” and “Accelerate Federal Permits of Data Center Infrastructure” to leverage federal land assets for the deployment of data center and energy generation projects.
Paducah is one of four sites identified by DOE for AI infrastructure and power generation projects on federal lands, along with the Idaho National Laboratory, Oak Ridge Reservation, and Savannah River Site.
