Writer, a full-stack generative AI platform for the enterprise, today announced a significant expansion of its services with the release of a developer tool suite called AI Studio and the Writer Framework, a new tool that enables enterprises to rapidly build and deploy custom generative AI applications. The company also announced new API endpoints and acquired Streamsync, a platform for building real-time applications, which will now be integrated into Writer Framework.
These moves position Writer as a one-stop shop for enterprise AI management and represent a major effort by the 200-employee company to make generative AI more accessible and practical for businesses of all sizes.
“Natural language, where you write and describe what you want, is the new programming language,” Writer co-founder and CEO May Habib said in an interview with VentureBeat. “Users in the enterprise have the most context about how things should look, how they should work, and what the output should be. They're not engineers. But to actually build, design, and deploy, you need to bring AI engineers and business users together.”
Empowering developers to easily build custom AI apps
Perhaps the more exciting of the two announcements is the release of Writer Framework, a drag-and-drop development environment bundled with Writer AI Studio that enables developers to rapidly create custom AI-powered applications by connecting pre-built UI components to generative AI models, with full flexibility to customize the underlying code.

“This is really built by developers for developers,” Sam Julien, head of developer relations at Writer, told VentureBeat. “By giving developers familiar tools like drag-and-drop interfaces, Python, and API endpoints, they don't have to be experts in these areas, they can use them as part of developing their application.”
The Writer Framework supports the entire Python ecosystem, giving developers granular control over prompts and allowing them to edit their generative AI flows in their favorite code editor. “It’s all API-based; you build it yourself, so you can bring in any data that has an API,” Julien told VentureBeat. “That’s one of the great things about having a framework and APIs and SDKs. We give you the generative AI toolbox, but then you can do whatever app development you want.”
From product descriptions to chatbots: the versatility of Writer Framework
Several customers are already using Writer Framework to develop innovative applications. Online lingerie retailer Adore Me created a product description generator that translates product descriptions into multiple languages and formats and automatically surfaces top SEO keywords. Other early use cases include a social media post generator, a spreadsheet-based content workflow, and an internal knowledge management chatbot.
The Writer's Studio platform and framework highlights the growing demand for companies to operationalize generative AI and develop practical applications that drive business value. As large language models become increasingly commoditized, companies that can build robust infrastructure and user-friendly tools around their core AI will likely have an advantage.
“We're lowering the barrier to entry so that average developers at any company can build with AI without having to be experts in large language models or AI infrastructure,” says Julien. “That's really our big vision.”
Founded in 2020, Writer has raised $126 million in venture funding from ICONIQ Growth, WndrCo, Insight Partners, Gradient Ventures, and others. The startup has gained momentum with sales to large enterprises such as Accenture, Deloitte, and Intuit. With Writer AI Studio and Writer Framework, the company aims to make generative AI more accessible and useful for a wider range of businesses and developers.
