The famous Google apps that many people know and love on Android devices are now available on Windows 10 and Windows 11. This is a standalone application that simplifies access to web searches. Instead of opening a browser, a keyboard shortcut using Alt and Spacebar is sufficient. This allows you to start searching directly without going through any additional programs.
In addition to traditional search, the application also offers other features. According to the app’s official page, it also has access to the AI “Gemini” and the image recognition tool Google Lens. You can highlight on-screen content, copy text, and get additional information. Results are displayed directly in the app window. No need to switch to other applications.
Features reminiscent of famous AI assistants
This application is more than just a search function. You can also search local files and programs installed on your computer. Signing in with your Google Account gives you access to more content in Google Workspace, allowing you to consolidate different data sources in one place.
However, this central integration raises questions. How exactly the data will be handled remains unclear, especially when it comes to data privacy. Some information may not be processed locally on your computer, but on Google’s servers. It is currently unclear whether any personal content will be uploaded in the process.
Released carefully without making any major announcements
The introduction of this app is happening without extensive public communication. There is no official announcement or blog post on the website yet. Additionally, the application is currently only available in English, although other features such as AI mode are already available in Germany.

There are also restrictions on downloads. According to the notification, this app is intended for users over 13 years of age. However, no actual age verification is performed. The cautious launch may be related to general skepticism towards AI applications. Previous features of the PC, such as Microsoft’s Recall feature, have come under criticism.
