Over the past few years, actor, rapper and slapper Will Smith has been the subject of AI's grotesque memes.
It appears the team of the 56-year-old “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” star used the technology to soup up concert footage from his comeback tour. And the purpose seems strongly to be that it appears to be full of love for Smith's much-close career trajectory.
A video of the moment from Smith's “based on a true story” tour recently posted on YouTube and Instagram shows the “Wild Wild West” actor who is first seen at a glance in the video.
As the online observer quickly pointed out, the problem is that many segments of the video are clearly AI was generated entirely or at least severely altered using technology.

His passion for Will Smith was expressed through the inverse rictus that he has never been seen on the face of a living human, as he holds high signs that he is saying Smith's almost forgotten 2024 single “You'll give it to me.” Check out some of these accesses in the background for extra nightmare fuel.

As they compete for the situation even further, the video appears to be a mysterious mixture of actual footage of scenes of Smith and the crowd in the distance. (It is also worth noting that the crowd in the video is almost completely white for some reason.)
Socially, the reaction was cruel.
“A blurry half-face mess, seven fingers, a cell phone crossed with an old-fashioned camera, my forehead disappears anywhere,” one viewer wrote. “There are no human marks on that shot.”
Interestingly, this video is not labeled on either YouTube or Instagram as containing AI-generated content. This has been tacitly needed for nearly 18 months, and Instagram owner Meta has been required for almost a long time.
And, as a real-life check, compare the Beetlemania-esque euphoria of video concert participants with actual footage from the tour. This shows a modestly sized crowd swaying lightly while lifting up his smartphone and recording the sight of Smith lined up on the stage. (We also couldn't find any videos of the tour featuring over 500 viewings on YouTube.)
Users who claimed to attend a concert of “I, the Robot” actors in Frankfurt, Germany earlier this summer proved that their crowd experiences were very different from those shown in Smith's video.
“I was at his show in Frankfurt and it was really sad. The hall was over half and the expensive seats were sold out about 20%,” they wrote. “His social media posts after the concert looked like the venue was stuffed. The show was really bad. The best crowd reaction was when they played a Carlton dance video and his dancers broke into a 90s hip-hop song (not him).”
Add it all, it seems very easy. The aging rapper or his team were unhappy with the overwhelming concert footage they filmed in real life, so they decided to use AI technology to “enhance” it – and end up creating an accidental parody that will create ecstasy in a man who no longer brings crazy tension. Or maybe he'll come out and say he was joking.
It appears that Smith's team has not yet provided answers to the publication, but contacted his representative with questions. I will update if there is a reply.
