WhatsApp is working on developing AI-generated profile pictures on the app to save users the trouble of uploading new profile pictures in future.
WhatsApp is developing a feature that will allow users to “create unique, personalized images that reflect your personality, interests and mood more accurately than a standard photo.”
WhatsApp users can prompt the AI and describe the type of image they want, and the AI will then create a customized profile picture based on the information provided.
While the name of WhatsApp AI has yet to be revealed, the app has already integrated Meta AI into its platform in April 2024.
Commenting on the impact of the feature on user privacy, WhatsApp Beta said: “In our view, this feature enhances the privacy of user profiles. Using AI-generated images allows users to avoid sharing their real photos, reducing the risk of image misuse and unauthorized sharing, while the ability to prevent screenshots of profile photos already adds an extra layer of privacy to this situation.”
“Furthermore, we believe this feature will also be helpful when users are unsure of which photo to use. Instead of spending time searching for and taking the perfect photo, users can easily generate one with just a prompt,” he added.
