It seems that recent history is being repeated. In November, Netflix was roasted when the executive posted AI-generated images to announce the launch of AI game development two weeks after closing AIA Studio Team Blue. At the very least, you might think you taught industry players to recognize optics, but Microsoft's Xbox is currently facing similar Flaks.
Two weeks ago, Xbox reported thousands of layoffs and canceled games like Everwild and Perfect Dark. The fingers were inevitably pointed at the AI. Currently, Xbox's graphics development lead has announced that his department is hiring. This is what appears to be a bad AI-generated image, as evidenced that staff is in urgent need (see Selecting the Best Game Development Software if you prefer to work with your own game).
It seems that anyone on Xbox Graphics has noticed that the job ad images show computer monitors with displays, the wrong way, but what really shocks is the lack of awareness of how bad the lazy use of AI is amid concerns about industry layoffs and AI jobs.
Comments on LinkedIn don't tend to descend on public roasts, as they do on other social media platforms, but this has proven to be an exception.
“We're looking at thousands of Xbox staff being fired and graphics heads posting AI slops to promote new vacant seats and trying to imagine what it must be,” one person replied in the post.
“Xbox is dead,” another wrote. “The people at the top [are] Creatively and morally bankrupt. Needless to say, it has been separated from reality. ”
“You're putting this industry into a death spiral and destroying as many lives as possible in the process. This isn't a technological advancement, it's a speed turn that circumvents the drain.”
Others feel that this ad will hardly stimulate confidence in new employees. “Why do everyone use AI to photograph their work for your art department position?
To be clear, I haven't confirmed that unemployment on Xbox is directly connected to AI. However, as the industry is currently in a difficult time and AI is a huge concern for those who have started game design, large players may need to do a soul search.
