Online dating platform Tinder announced some exciting updates at its Tinder Sparks 2026 product keynote. The California-based company announced a combination of AI-powered safety upgrades, new detection modes, updated profiling tools, and improved app design. These changes aim to make dating on the platform safer, faster, and more interactive.

Improved safety with AI upgrades
Tinder uses large-scale language models (LLM) to enhance reliability and safety features. Two important tools – “Does that bother you?” (DTBY) and “Are You Sure?” (AYS) I’m getting smarter.

- The upgraded DTBY now uses AI to better detect harmful or offensive messages.
- Tinder will soon be testing an auto-blur feature that will automatically hide harmful messages before users see them. The test will begin next month worldwide.
- The AYS feature, which warns users before sending potentially offensive messages, is expected to begin testing in the second quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, DTBY with new AI upgrades is already up and running.
Tinder is also expanding Face Check, a video-based face detection and liveness verification technology. This feature is currently rolling out worldwide and is mandatory for new users.
Watch live matches in the Events tab

Tinder is adding an all-new Events section to help users connect beyond the app. This feature allows people to discover local events and attend matches in person. This feature is currently in beta testing in Los Angeles, California.
Another upcoming feature is video speed dating. This allows users to interact with potential partners through a three-minute video chat. If both parties are enjoying the conversation, the session can be extended.
A new way to find matches

Tinder is also introducing a new discovery mode to help users find people based on shared interests.
music mode This redesigned version of Global Mode will allow users to match through shared music tastes powered by Spotify. Users can add up to 20 songs to their profile.
astrology mode This feature focuses on compatibility-based browsing and helps users find matches based on their sun sign and energy card.
Additionally, Double Date, the social dating feature launched last year, is now available globally. Two friends can also match with another pair or add double date activity ideas to their profiles.
Tinder’s College Mode, which connects students from different universities and research institutes, is currently being tested in the US and UK.

Smarter profiles and fresh app design
Tinder is also rolling out new AI-powered profile tools.
- photo correction Automatically improve your profile picture.
- camera roll scan Provides personalized suggestions based on users’ photos.
The app also has a visual overhaul, including full-screen photos, smoother fade animations, a redesigned profile page, and a new showcase section for movies, shows, and games.
