Google is adding Gemini Omni and personal avatars to Google Vids, expanding the app’s AI-powered video creation tools for paid users. Gemini Omni can generate and edit videos using natural language, while a new personal avatar feature allows users to appear in videos without recording themselves on camera.
Google Vids already offered Veo-powered video generation, an AI presenter, screen recording, and tools to turn slide presentations into narrated videos. With Gemini Omni, the platform evolves into a more comprehensive editing suite, allowing users to adjust videos through simple conversations instead of manual editing.
Complete AI video editing solution
First unveiled at Google I/O 2026, Gemini Omni is a multimodal AI model that can manipulate text, images, sketches, audio recordings, and existing video footage. Within Google Vids, users can briefly describe the video they want to create and provide references to guide the final output.
Once the first version is generated, users can continue to improve it by changing the background, improving lighting, adding effects, and modifying individual scenes, all through natural language prompts. The same editing tools also work with videos recorded on your smartphone.
This conversational workflow makes Gemini Omni superior to traditional AI video generators, as each instruction builds on the previous one while maintaining the overall style and continuity of the video. This approach also reduces the learning curve for beginners, as it removes much of the technical complexity associated with video editing.
personal avatar
Google is also introducing personal avatars, which create digital versions of users from selfies and short audio recordings. Users simply upload these inputs, enter a script, and Google generates an AI avatar that looks and sounds similar.
This feature is designed for use cases such as employee training videos, product demonstrations, and company announcements and presentations where users may not have the time or equipment to record themselves.
Gemini Omni and Personal Avatar are available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers and eligible Google Workspace Business customers. This feature is currently limited to adult users in some regions and is tied to the account holder’s likeness. All AI-generated videos also include a SynthID watermark for identification
