Asper Assistant Professor Wenxi Pu studies artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and research and is interested in the implications of this evolving and sometimes disruptive technology.

“AI is now embedded in many of our daily lives. It is not just a tool. It actively shapes and mediates social processes, how we see the world and shapes how we see ourselves,” he says.

“Students need to be actively trained to learn how to use AI effectively and responsibly. That’s why I incorporate ChatGPT into my BComm and MBA courses,” says Pu. . “At the same time, we need to focus on developing students’ understanding of the material, developing critical thinking skills in class, and developing communication and interpersonal skills.”

In addition to teaching students how ChatGPT works and how to create more effective prompts to interact with ChatGPT, Pu teaches students how to imagine themselves in relation to AI and It teaches you how to consider its shortcomings.

“Generative AI like ChatGPT can create new content, but is completely unaware of what that content means. It could also create chambers,” he says.

For Pu, it’s important that students and AI users stay in the “driver’s seat” and hold themselves accountable for the work the technology creates.

His teaching practice encourages students to collaborate with technology and think critically about technology-generated content, thus reminding them to ask themselves the same questions.

Pu’s investment in teaching students how to use AI shows the realization that AI technology won’t be ubiquitous anytime soon. His research is similarly focused on understanding how organizations use AI and the potential implications of this use.

In a research paper, Pu et al. explore the use of AI and machine learning algorithms in recruitment, particularly automated video interviewing (AVI) tools. With AVI, job seekers record video answers to text-based interview questions. Machine learning algorithms then analyze these responses to evaluate not only the answers, but also the tone of voice, style of speaking, facial expressions, and more.

The algorithm evaluates interviewees’ future job performance, personality, organizational fit, and other qualities that hiring organizations can specify.

Pu and co-authors asked whether people with mental health problems face barriers in using the software, and their preliminary findings suggest that depression, anxiety , suggesting that people with ADHD score lower in interview rankings.

While the researchers are still preparing their findings for research and publication, their study calls for reconsidering the invisible stigma of mental health problems and further investigating the use of AI in the recruitment process. suggesting sexuality.
