Britain's competition watchdog said Wednesday it is considering a partnership between the artificial intelligence company and major US tech partners Microsoft and Amazon.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said in a statement that it had asked stakeholders for feedback on the partnership.
Joel Bamford, CMA's executive director of mergers, said: “Today we are seeking comment on the partnership between Microsoft and Mistral AI, Amazon and Anthropic, the employment of former Microsoft employees and related arrangements with Inflection AI.” Ta.
“We intend to objectively and fairly assess whether each of these three transactions falls within the UK merger rules and, if so, whether they impact on competition in the UK.”
Microsoft recently announced that it has appointed Mustafa Suleyman, head of Inflection, as head of its newly created consumer AI division.

Inflection is a competitor to OpenAI and Anthropic in building models that provide ChatGPT-style AI.
Britain's move comes after regulators in the United States and European Union launched similar investigations into such alliances.
Amazon on Wednesday expressed surprise at the action taken by the British watchdog.

“It is unprecedented for the CMA to review this type of collaboration,” it said in a statement.
“We are confident that the facts speak for themselves and hope that the CMA will agree to resolve this matter quickly.”
