WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the items being thrown out of the White House's second-floor window appear to check the truthfulness of IT a few hours ago, a video circulating online showing items made with artificial intelligence.
Donald Trump boasted of being an architectural design expert while working on a remodeling project across the white house, but the video “has to be fake” because the windows are heavy and sealed.
A video circulated on Monday appears to show a small black bag and a long white item thrown out of the building's east window.
Trump denounced the AI video and said that creating fake videos is one of the drawbacks of technology, but said, “If something happens, if it's really bad, you might have to blame the AI.”
Hours ago, the White House apparently confirmed that the video was authentic when he asked several news outlets about the video that he was “a contractor who was performing regular maintenance while the president was gone.”
The White House did not respond to messages about inconsistencies later Tuesday.
Trump denied opening the windows, saying, “I know all the windows there.” He went on to tell her that First Lady Melania Trump recently complained that she wanted fresh air from the open windows of the White House.
After Trump watched the video on Peter Doocy's phone from Fox News Channel Reporter, the president said the windows were once again sealed and once again denounced the AI.
“That's what they do,” he said. “And one of the problems we have with AI is both the good and the bad. If something is really bad, then we just blame the AI.
Hany Farid, an expert on digital forensics and misinformation at the University of California, Berkeley, who reviewed the video, said he would not detect any digital watermarks that are sometimes inserted into images at the time of AI-Generation.
“All the shadows in the scene, including shadows from the thrown bag, are physically consistent. The movement of the wave flag does not have any clever signs you often see in videos that you generate. The overall structure of the White House appears to be consistent, including the flight of the American and Pow/Meer flags,” Farid said in a statement.
Former first lady Michelle Obama, who appeared in 2015's The Ellen Degeneres Show, appears to be complaining about not being able to open the windows in the White House, telling her host that she looks forward to life after the White House, saying that she wants to have a car ride in the open window, “The windows in our house are not open.”
