Donald Trump on Thursday posted an AI-generated social media video in which he plays a doctor who claims to have cured his most prominent critics, including Rosie O’Donnell, of a fictitious condition called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Other than the AI fantasy, O’Donnell said his opinion of the president remains the same. In a statement, she gave her diagnosis and said, “He is very sick and getting worse by the day. The 25th Amendment exists for this very reason: to remove, impeach, and convict.”
The testimonial-style video, shared by @realDonaldTrump on social media, features AI-generated versions of celebrities who have spoken out against the president and his administration, including Whoopi Goldberg, Edward Norton, and Julia Roberts.
The video uses surreal, fake footage to depict celebrities regretting their antipathy toward the president.
“I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, I was always angry,” said the deepfake version of Robert De Niro. “I made the people around me unhappy.”
Dr. Trump, an AI wearing a white coat and stethoscope, says he is not confident he can help people suffering from TDS. TDS is a term used by presidents and their allies to accuse critics of irrationally opposing their policies.
“The symptoms were so gone that I didn’t really understand,” Fake Trump said, before touting a prescribed “treatment plan.”
For patients suffering from TDS, Trump says, “turn off the fake news, pray, and if you’re feeling anxious, drink a Diet Coke like I do, and you’ll see noticeable changes in your life.”
Trump has been eager to dabble in AI-generated content, some of it shocking, often to idealize his presidency or target his opponents. Earlier this year, Trump shared an image depicting Jesus healing a sick man. He deleted the post after receiving backlash from prominent Christian commentators and supporters who called the image blasphemous.
In another work, he portrayed himself as a pope during a feud with Pope Leo XIV. Last year, he gleefully posted a fake Time magazine cover depicting him as a king wearing a crown. “Long live the King!” he declared.
In February, President Trump released a racist video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys, sparking a furious backlash. He deleted the post but refused to apologize.
The White House has treated these posts as primarily humorous and part of the president’s political messaging style. Reacting to the president’s latest video, White House press secretary Davis Ingle said it was President Trump’s “right” to post the video.
“Trump Derangement Syndrome is a serious disease that has unfortunately rotted the brains of many people,” he added.
Officials have not confirmed whether the White House has contacted the actors depicted about the use of their likenesses.
