Sen. Tom Tillis, RN.C. said it would not support Trump's controversial candidate Paul Ingracia for the U.S. Special Advisors Office, and told NBC News, “I'm no.”
“I wasn't following him,” Tillis said. “I went to my office and got a preliminary briefing. That's enough to know that there's probably little way I can get to Jesus. That's January 6th. That's a lot of other things.
Ingrassia is a far-right former podcaster and commentator, with a long list of comments from the yakicontry. He called for the public to declare a national holiday on January 6th to celebrate “peaceful protest against the great injustice affecting our electoral system,” and on October 7th, 2023, Hamas dismissed Israel as “PSYOP.”
Tillis has said in recent weeks that he is opposed to candidates Trump who have participated in or acted in support of those who participated in the Capitol riots.
Trump's candidates can only lose three votes in the Senate if they want to be confirmed, and Tillis's early opposition could mean Ingracia's nomination is in trouble.
“It's clear to me that he's not ready for prime time, but he's young. He has plenty of time to learn,” Tillis said.
Ingracia is scheduled to hold a confirmation hearing tomorrow before the Senate's Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs. There, Sen. James Lankford of R-Okla said that earlier comments from Ingracia would arise.
“I would never make some of the statements he made,” Lanckford, who is on the committee, told NBC News. “So I think they can ask everything and get his perspective.”
