The Textbook Committee recommends rejecting low score welding basics

A recent Alabama Board of Education work session focused on evaluating educational materials, particularly vocational course textbooks. An important highlight was a review of the Architecture and Construction Curriculum textbooks, in which the committee presented average scores for various materials.

The committee reported that the Construction Academy textbook covering the basic principles received an impressive average score of 93%. This score reflects the collective evaluation of group members involved in the review process. In contrast, Stevens Publishing's basic welding textbooks only earn 76%, falling below the board's threshold for approval. As a result, textbooks considered suitable for classroom use were recommended for rejection as the board requires a minimum score of 80%.

The meeting concluded with an invitation from board members to raise questions and comments, but did not allow the agenda to move forward smoothly.
