Feeling overwhelmed by technology? A three-part lecture series at Champlain Library may help you overcome that feeling.
Starting Jan. 31, the Vankleek Hill resident with decades of experience in the technology field will speak on artificial intelligence (AI) in a three-part series.
Fernando Real is a relative newcomer to Vankleek Hill. He is a freelance graphic designer, working in the field of 3D design and video games, and also does work that relies heavily on technology.
Leal acknowledged that there is a lot of information online, but said much of it is sensational and aimed only at getting people's attention.
“There's noise everywhere,” Real says. “It's important to explain artificial intelligence (AI) in basic terms and understand that most of us are already using it in our daily lives,” he added.
Much debate has focused on whether artificial intelligence will replace humans.
Real is quick to say that as technology evolves, some specific jobs and roles will disappear, but new jobs will evolve. “That's history. If you look back, jobs have changed and then new jobs have been created,” Real explained.
The difference is that the rate of change today is faster than ever before. Real says everything has sped up since he implemented AI about two years ago.
So what is AI? Now, I can't give you the long version here, but Leal says that artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that focuses on creating systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. I'm explaining. AI aims to develop machines that simulate human cognitive functions and enable humans to make decisions, solve problems, and adapt to changing situations.
Real is on a mission to inform and encourage people not to be afraid of AI. “This is a tool that we can use to improve our jobs. We can't turn our backs on technology and AI. It's not going away,” Real said, adding that learning about and being aware of AI is the way forward. He added that there is.
Real are taking a bit of a risk in this negotiation. The Spanish native has been studying English for the past few years and says he is using AI and technology to improve his language skills. However, this will be his first presentation in English. He said practicing with a charming smile.
The second and third presentations on Blockchain Cryptocurrency and Augmented Reality will be held at the Champlain Library in February and March. (The date has not yet been confirmed.)
The Champlain Library is located at 94 Main Street East in Vankleek Hill. His presentation on AI will take place on January 31st at 6:30 p.m.
Real also hosts weekly role-playing board game (e.g. Dungeons and Dragons) nights at the Vankleek Hill Creating Center. The fun begins at 5pm and continues until approximately 9pm. The Creation Center is located at 13 High Street, Vankleek Hill.
