Turnitin has extended its AI lighting detection capabilities with AI bypasser detection, a feature that helps identify text that has been modified by AI Humanizer Tools. “Humanizers,” which converts AI-generated text to make it appear as if it's a human being written, can be used by students to avoid detection by both teachers and academic integrity tools, the company explained in a news release.

“The easy availability of these tools brings an increased threat to academic integrity, shifting student focus from using AI to actively hide, making it more difficult for educators to examine the originality of the work submitted, and negatively affecting the student's learning experience,” Turnitin said.

Bypasser detection integrated into Turnitin's overall lighting detection capabilities allows users to automatically check the text of content that could generate AI and potentially changed content from all platforms. Detection of bypassers is currently limited to interactions in English.
