AI For Business

The ultimate goal of Fintech Major Paytm is to become the first AI company to be the AI company. This is to integrate the technology into more routine workflows.

Speaking at ShipRocket Shivir 2025, Sharma said the impact AI has on her job is inevitable. “Sometimes or later we have to start using AI as an employee or as a CFO,” he said.

Sharma added that many processes will be automated through AI, but will create new roles. According to people you know, the company has also fired multiple employees in recent months.

Paytm has announced a pilot project with new AI. This is a wrapable passbook. Sharma said the company is experimenting with rap songs generated in AI that summarises users' monthly spending. However, he did not specify a timeline for the launch.

“AI writes lyrics, generates music, and allows users to choose this genre. This is a rethinked version of the password,” says Sharma.

Previously, Paytm announced a partnership with Prperxity, integrating AI-powered search into its app.

Sharma also emphasized that the country must become “use-case capital” for AI instead of developing new models, due to the high barriers to penetration between India and the global AI ecosystem and the growing gap.

“The logic of building in India and selling locally doesn't work. Global talent moves to places where there is opportunity,” he said.

He also emphasized that the country's strength lies in applying AI at large scale to solve the unique problems of diverse populations, even if it is unable to build basic large-scale language models.
