Skill up business for the future of AI

AI For Business

At BT Business, we use AI to fundamentally transform the way we work and better serve our customers, whether it’s helping small businesses grow their businesses or delivering a key element of the UK public sector’s digital transformation.

AI training for all business colleagues

Human resources are the foundation of AI transformation. That’s why BT Business has today announced the launch of tailored AI training for all 11,000 employees across all roles and sectors.

All staff at BT Business will undergo a course of training modules supporting people at every stage of their AI journey, from AI basics to role-specific training, supported by coaching from leaders and line managers.

The skills program, brought to you by Avanade and Microsoft, provides participants with exclusive webinars and learning pathways, as well as resources for managers to create tailored learning plans for their teams.

The new role of AI in business

Today, during National Apprenticeship Week, BT Business is also launching the first BT apprentice and graduate roles completely focused on AI as part of its 2026 recruitment. At the same time, we announced that we will be offering hundreds of new AI and data apprenticeships to existing colleagues, allowing them to retrain in new areas.

This reflects BT’s continued commitment to early career opportunities, expanding our pipeline of specialist talent at the cutting edge of technology and filling roles across the UK.

Our partnership with leading education technology company Multiverse will give these business staff the opportunity to develop new AI, data, automation and technology skills. As one of the UK’s largest private sector apprenticeship employers, participants in both schemes will join the more than 1,000 employees currently completing their apprenticeships with BT.

Our commitment to the UK

BT’s investment in improving AI skills is in line with our commitment to improving AI skills across the UK. BT is a founding partner of the government. AI skill boost BT aims to upskill 10 million employees in AI by 2030. Along with leading industry and public sector organizations, BT helps colleagues and customers access the training to participate and succeed in an AI-enabled world with confidence.

BT has also partnered with Babington, one of the UK’s largest apprenticeship training providers, to deliver a £4m Apprenticeship Fund to support small businesses, charities and public sector organizations across England. Now in its third year, the program helps train new apprentices and upskill existing staff, with £1.6m to date allocated to support 223 apprentices across 142 employers.

One of the recipients of the fund is Cosford-based Midland Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC). We provide vital pre-hospital care across six West Midlands counties, responding to around 4,300 emergencies a year, often reaching patients within 10 minutes. The charity, which is entirely funded by public and corporate donations, relies on volunteers but also needs a skilled team of staff. With limited HR capacity, MAAC received £4,500 from BT’s Apprenticeship Fund to support HR apprentices. Without this funding, this investment would not have been possible.

Emily Brown, Head of Education and Training, Midland Air Ambulance Charitysaid: “Our people are at the heart of everything we do. I would like to thank the Babington and BT teams for enabling our employees to join the BT Group Apprenticeship Funding Scheme and further develop our skills.”

Seize the future of AI

Investing in staying at the cutting edge of technology, including AI, is critical to our customers and employees, and BT will continue to invest to remain at the forefront of our industry, as we have for 180 years.

These new AI training and career pathways are designed to ensure our current and future talent has the lifelong skills they and BT will need in the future, allowing us to innovate and deliver faster. AI will not transform business. people do.
