I will talk about the potential use of AI in the provision of social services. I talk a lot about providing services to people experiencing homelessness, but these types of things usually apply to all kinds of things offered by local and state governments. So this includes things like public education from kindergarten to high school. Or it could include a variety of other public services of that kind. Those who are frontline workers know who know how to allocate this resource and what they are assigned. Where does AI fit in that pipeline? What can you do well? What can bring AI to unexpected problems that we don't necessarily think about, and how can we work towards a future where we can actually use AI to achieve better results in society. AI is already being used to make all sorts of decisions about who will receive what interventions and increasingly in areas like the education system, child welfare, and homelessness. How is it affecting people today? What are the potential distribution effects? Are there any fairness and bias questions that come up here? And is it basically correct? Are we doing the right thing for those we are trying to serve? Can you predict how effective a particular intervention will be for households experiencing homelessness? Can you take a photo of your house and use it to help you assess the likelihood that an eviction event will occur here in the coming months? All of these types are something AI is very good at. And I think what you know is one of the cool technical challenges we are on the way with this measurement task to integrate into the pipeline I was talking about to really help society.
