As quarterback for the Super Bowl champions, Steve Beuerlein diagnosed the defense. Now, at 61, he uses AI to predict what types of heart problems will occur.
Beuerlein told FOX News Digital in a recent interview that as she gets older, she thinks more about her own mortality.
“As you get a little older, you think about your mortality a little more,” Beuerlein said in an interview with FOX News Digital’s HeartFlow.

He signed up for Heartflow’s Gamefilm Registry because Heartflow uses innovative technology to determine if you are at risk for cardiovascular disease.
“I looked into it and did some research and realized what Heartflow was doing as a company and that their technology was the first of its kind, a completely innovative type of AI-powered technology that was built into this whole product for early detection of heart disease,” Beuerlein said.
The Pro Bowl quarterback said his father has battled cardiovascular disease for 30 years, and with that in mind he wanted to get tested himself.
“My father had that kind of struggle for the last 30 years of his life. So, of course, I was curious about how I fit in and went through the whole process. It was a painless, non-invasive, very efficient, very easy process. And the details of getting through it and coming back, all the information that came back was very thorough and, luckily, it was very positive for me,” Beuerlein said.
Beuerlein was impressed not only with the ease of the test, but also with the power of AI technology to make the results so much easier to understand.
“What’s amazing is that even though the procedure is so simple, because of the technology that they have, a lot of it is again powered by AI, and after you go through the process and get the results, you’re actually sitting down with the doctor and literally looking at the computer,” Boerlein said.

“You’ll see a 3D image of your heart, and you can rotate it so you can see it from the front or the back.”
As a result, doctors and patients will be able to see all chambers of the heart. There is a color scale that identifies areas where plaque begins to develop.
Although hard plaque is an immediate cause for concern, soft plaque buildup is just as problematic.
This test gives patients a baseline of their current condition, allowing them to be proactive about their heart health rather than reactively.
“Fifty percent of first heart attack and major heart attack events occur completely out of the blue. People had no way of knowing this was going to happen, that they had these problems, and that’s what motivated HeartFlow to try to address that and come up with this innovative technology,” Boerlein said.
“Often times this is going on in people and there are no signs or symptoms. They have no way of really knowing they are at risk.”

Beuerlein played 14 seasons in the NFL. He played for the Los Angeles Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and Denver Broncos at the time. He was a backup quarterback when the Cowboys won the Super Bowl in 1992.
He played in the Pro Bowl with the Panthers in 1999. In 147 games (102 starts), he completed 56.9% of his passes, gained 24,046 yards, 147 touchdowns, and 112 interceptions.
