New Delhi: As deepfake scams continue to spread on social media, Rajya Sabha MP and Infosys Foundation Chairman Sudha Murthy has issued a strong warning to the public about fraudulent videos that misuse his identity to promote fake investment schemes.

Sudha Murthy has issued a warning to X about a fake AI-generated video that fraudulently depicts a financial investment scheme she supports. She said in a statement that she never supported the investment and that the video circulating online is completely false.

Her voice and photo have been replicated using artificial intelligence in the deepfake film, which is primarily spread on Facebook and other social media sites. These movies often contain links that direct viewers to fake websites designed to steal sensitive or personal data, and promises unusually high rewards.

The caption of her tweet read: “I would like to warn you that there are fake videos circulating online that misrepresent my image and voice to promote financial plans and investments. These are deepfakes created without my knowledge or consent.
Don’t make financial decisions based on these scam videos. We encourage you to check the information through official channels and report if you come across such content.
Please stay alert and stay safe. Jay Hind! ”

In a video message, Murthy, who is also chairman of the Murthy Trust, expressed concern about the growing influence of these fake videos.

she said, “I’m really worried and it pains me to tell you all, but if you go to Facebook, there are videos of me and there are actually two or three things going on at the same time where I’m saying that if I invest $200 or Rs 20,000, I’ll get much more than that, maybe 10 times more. There’s all this fake news going around.”

She highlighted the losses suffered by her acquaintances and warned against trusting financial messages seen on social media platforms.

“This is fake news. You will lose your money. If in doubt, email, look it up, or contact your bank. Think twice before investing.”
As a rule, I never talk about investments or anything with money. I always talk about work, Indian culture, women and education. I never talk about investing money and getting profits from it. That’s fake news.” she said.

Murthy urged people to be cautious and not to be fooled by greedy promises made in his name.

“With folded hands, I ask you, my viewers, if any financial transactions are made in my name, please don’t believe them. This is fake news. Don’t lose your hard-earned money for greed. They will trap you like a web and pull you inside. Don’t do that.” She added: “Save your money and invest wisely. If you have any problems, please contact the police station or your bank.”

The philanthropist has repeatedly been the target of such scams. Last month, another deepfake video of Sudha Murthy went viral, falsely showing her encouraging people to click on an “investment opportunity” link. These scams use advanced AI tools like voice cloning and facial manipulation to impersonate her and lure people with unrealistic benefits.

Sudha Murty is an Indian author, philanthropist, and chairperson of Infosys Foundation. She is married to Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy and is well known for her writing and contributions to social service. She has written numerous publications, including novels and children’s stories, such as Wise and Other.

For her contribution to humanitarian service, she was awarded the Padma Shri in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2023.
