Snap has signed a deal to integrate Perplexity’s AI answer engine directly into Snapchat, with rollout expected to begin globally in early January 2026. Under the agreement, Perplexity will become the default AI for Snapchat’s chat experience, powering real-time quote-backed answers within My AI and the chat interface, without users ever leaving the app. Snap said the partnership includes a $400 million cash and stock deal and will begin contributing to revenue in 2026.
Confusion in chat: When Snapchatters ask a question within My AI or Chat, a response is generated by Perplexity’s engine, which is designed to provide concise answers with links to the source. The goal is to make in-chat searches faster and more reliable than general web searches.
Range and timing: Snap explains that this integration will be rolled out in stages starting in early 2026, with Perplexity set as the default AI assistant for all users. Existing My AI interactions will continue and search-style queries will be overlaid with Perplexity.
Where it appears: This feature will appear in the chat interface and My AI surface. Snap also later hinted at possible expansion into creative and lens workflows, but details were not announced.
Snap says messages sent to Perplexity will help personalize the experience, similar to My AI. Detailed data sharing and retention policies regarding the integration are not fully disclosed and are key to focus on when getting started.
