Signal AI lands $165 million to redefine the intelligence of risk and reputation

AI For Business

London-based artificial intelligence startup Signal Media Ltd., better known as Signal AI, today announced a new $165 million growth financing funding led by battery ventures.

Following this investment, Battery Ventures will acquire a majority stake in Signal AI and support the company through its next stage of growth. Existing investors Highland Europe, Mercuri and MMC Ventures hold minority positions.

Founded in 2013, the company's platform uses machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence to actively detect risk and reputation “signals” from external sources. Signal AI ingests data from 226 markets in 75 languages, including news articles, TV news, podcasts, regulatory filing, and social media platforms from mainstream channels to fringe platforms to help organizations understand and understand the complex relationships between businesses, people and issues.

In an interview with Siliconangle, Signal AI CEO David Benigson said the company, combined with the accuracy of its AI models, differentiates it in the market with access to premium-compliant data that others don't have.

“Our vision and mission as a business is, as we explain, redefine the intelligence of risk and reputation,” Benigson said. “In this increasingly complex and unstable world where the number of risks and problems appears to be increasing exponentially, we are trying to help our clients get a window into the outside world.”

He added that while enterprise technology has long focused on managing internal data and workflows, there is little attention paid to understanding external risks and reputational threats that could affect businesses as well.

“Many threat companies are committed to coming from outside the business, not from within,” Benigson said.

The platform allows decision makers to identify new risks, identify benchmarks for peers and competitors, and take action before events escalate to reputation or financial damage. Customers include Diageo PLC, NetApp Inc., Volvo Car Corp., Bloomberg LP, and Uber Technologies Inc.

The company said it plans to grow its risk intelligence product development and expand its reach across the US, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The investment follows two acquisitions by Signal AI, including the 2022 corporate reputation management platform Kelp Inc. and the Advanced Reporting Intelligence Monitoring Firm Social 360 in 2024.

Signal AI's latest product launch, Ask Aiq to AIQ allows business leaders and executives to answer highly complex business questions based on intelligence collected and curated by the company's AI engine. Use surface patterns and trends from a large amount of data using searched generation. Users can ask questions in natural language about risk, emotions, etc.

Common applications of ASICH AIQ include finding answers to complex issues that can affect your company and analyzing customer sentiment. For example, users could ask, “What are the trends regarding generative AI and copyright risks?” Or, “Who had the best feelings of my competitors in US sauce?”

AIQ returns highly detailed answers in seconds, incorporating a wealth of visualizations to support conclusions and data analysis to enable rapid responses to potential reputational threats and emerging opportunities.

“We feel that Signal AI distinguishes differentiated market positions at the intersection of AI, risk and enterprise software,” said Collier Searle, the headmaster of the battery, who is taking part in the Signal AI board. “We support exceptional teams with a bold vision to become the central nervous system of risk-aware organizations.”

Benigson said the company is developing predictive risk intelligence and uses a blend of discriminatory and generative AI to connect signals before escalating and predict threats. He added that AI agents see them as part of the next stage in building a “decision intelligence” tool that not only emphasizes risk but also encourages answers and actions.

“This risk intelligence market needs to take shape that every organization needs to have a chief risk officer,” Benigson said. “All Chief Risk Managers need to have tools like signal AI in their hands to preempt external risks and threats in a more predictable and preemptive way.”
