In a new interview, Samsung's Won Joon Chae commented on how Samsung will go ahead when Apple releases its first fold and discusses…

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are major improvements in the face of tough competition with China, but it also makes the first fold from Apple seem to be on the horizon. In a new interview with BloombergSamsung mobile president Wong Jun Choi was asked how Samsung “keep the edge” after Apple's debut (edited to clarify):

We've done this for many years and have accumulated a lot of technology and know-how. And this category with another global technology company is good for the industry and will be great for the consumer.

The interview asked Choi about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 being the first folding to use the Exynos chip. He said Samsung has a “strict process” when selecting chipsets, and the company is looking at performance, power consumption and other “rational aspects of consumer requirements.” When asked if Samsung would use the Exynos 2600 on next year's flip, he said Samsung “considering all options.”

Following on, Choi is asked about the 25% tariff where the Galaxy Phone may be looking for a device not made in the US. He explains that Samsung has multiple “manufacturing facilities” in major regions around the world, allowing it to have “many flexibility” in its trade policy. But speaking directly to the US tariffs, Choi says there is “a lot of uncertainty,” but Samsung says it is making it possible to manufacture products heading into the US market “in multiple locations.”

Of course, moving on to AI, Choi wants Samsung to bring more AI to the device beyond Gemini.

He explains:

…Gemini is not the only AI assistant to integrate with Galaxy. This framework we have built will integrate multiple AI assistants and AI agents.

As long as these AI agents are competitive and the AI agents can provide the best user experience, it can be anything. I've been talking to multiple vendors. I think it's at that time [Galaxy] I'm going to see more S26. In addition to Gemini, you'll see more at that point [Galaxy] S26.

Nothing specific said, but both confusion and chatgpt were mentioned by the interviewer. However, if there's bullying to hear more along with the release of the Galaxy S26 next year, it seems almost certain that Samsung has some specific partners in mind.

Choi concludes the interview by discussing how Samsung considers smartphones to be the “central hub” of future AI.
