MULTAN: In a pioneering move towards good governance, South Punjab Secretariat has become the first public sector organisation in the country to implement an artificial intelligence (AI) app for service delivery.

Deputy Chief Secretary of South Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani on Tuesday hosted an awareness session here with a demonstration by AI consultant Dr Atal Mansoor, who introduced the potential of AI to secretaries and special secretaries of all departments in South Punjab in streamlining public service delivery.

The event was attended by prominent figures from academia and government including Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Atheel, Secretary Service Engineer Amjad Shoaib Khan Tareen, Vice Chancellor of Emerson College Muhammad Ramzan and all senior officials of the ministry.

Fuad Hashim Rabbani, ACS, speaking at the session, highlighted the role of AI in traffic management, poverty eradication, and agricultural development, especially in improving crop yields, optimizing pesticide use, livestock, and health. He announced plans for AI graduate internships in the Faculty of Agriculture and expansion of AI applications to health, education, and traffic control. He directed a team of government officials, professors, and students to develop an integrated AI strategy with pilot projects in all departments to be implemented in South Punjab within 60 days. Rabbani said AI will improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the administrative sector. Vice Chancellor Ramzan announced the opening of a BS AI faculty at Emerson College and offered support for the government's efforts with AI in South Punjab.
