The Rolling Stones have turned back the clock with a new music video that takes the band back to their 1970s heyday. The British group, formed in 1962, appears to have used AI to create the video for “In the Stars,” released Thursday.
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards (both 82 years old) and Ronnie Wood (78 years old) are filmed jamming together at a house party. They are surrounded by other musicians and perform together as partygoers dance to the band’s iconic new single from their upcoming album Foreign Tongues.
Marty Supreme actor Odessa Azion is one of the people making a fuss about attending a digitally altered Stones jam. She sings and dances like a young person and licks the face of a moving jaguar.
“I’m obsessed with the Rolling Stones,” she said in a press release sent to media outlets. “This is definitely on my bucket list.”
Deep Voodoo, an artificial intelligence company founded by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, reportedly used “groundbreaking deepfake technology” to bring the Stones’ latest project to life. Their new video credits actors who play shadows of Jagger, Richards, and Woods.
The band lost longtime drummer Charlie Watts in 2021 at the age of 80. In the “In the Stars” video, an army of drummers stands in for the famous percussionist.
The Stones held a Q&A in Brooklyn on May 5th, hosted by the eccentric Conan O’Brien, to promote their second recording of new original music since 2005. “Foreign Tongues” is scheduled for release on July 10th.
Former Beatle Paul McCartney is also one of the musicians featured on the album.
