JAKARTA – Roblox is introducing a new way to control user chat. It plans to stop using the “###” hashtag in censored texts and make the changes more subtle.
This feature is made possible with the support of artificial intelligence (AI). A new system developed by Roblox can convert words that violate the rules into more polite sentences in all languages, including Indonesian.
Previously, Roblox censored the entire text with a hashtag if it found a word that violated its policies. This is often complained by users, as it is difficult to understand the interlocutor’s sentences.
Fortunately, the system will translate your message into a more appropriate sentence that matches what you typed. For example, if a user previously wrote “Hurry up!”, Roblox will change it to “Hurry up!”
“Real-time text correction helps keep the game on track while steering the language in the right direction,” Rajiv Bhatia, Roblox’s vice president of user products and discovery, said on Friday, March 6.
When a message is changed by the system, all players in the chat will receive a notification that the text has been adjusted. This step is taken to educate users to remain polite during in-game interactions.
Currently, this feature is only available to users who are age-verified and belong to a similar age group. The system also supports all languages available in Roblox’s automatic translation tool.
In addition to text changes, Roblox has also improved its text filters to detect attempts to manipulate words using numbers and symbols. The company claims that with this update, it has succeeded in reducing the leakage of personal information by one-twentieth.
English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and French versions are automatically generated by AI. Therefore, there may still be inaccuracies in the translation. Always refer to Indonesian as the primary language. (Systems supported by DigitalSiber.id)
