Recruitment agency study finds AI-generated applications slowing Atlanta’s hiring process

Applications of AI

In a new study released Wednesday, recruiting firm Robert Half reports that the use of artificial intelligence to fill job applications is slowing hiring timelines in Atlanta and across the United States.

The company says this is “a sharp reversal from the productivity gains that many had expected.”

In a survey of Atlanta recruiters, 77% said AI-generated applications are slowing down their work.

“AI has transformed recruiting at every step,” Dawn Fay, director of operations at Robert Half, said in a statement. “Companies are looking to hire, but a surge in unverified applications is extending timelines and delaying important work.”

Almost half of the managers surveyed said their hiring was delayed by one to two weeks, and a further 10% said their hiring was delayed by more than two weeks.

The majority of recruiting teams in Atlanta said in the Robert Half survey that they are dealing with heavier workloads due to the “proliferation of AI-aligned applications.”

Almost 70% of recruiters in the region said that AI-enhanced resumes have made it difficult to verify candidates’ job skills.

“AI has made it easier to write applications, but it has not made it easier to identify the right talent. In many cases, AI is doing the opposite, increasing the need for trusted experts who can validate skills and quickly provide qualified candidates,” Fay said.
