MediaTek Partners with NVIDIA to Transform Automobiles with AI and Accelerated Computing

Applications of AI

MediaTek, a leading connectivity and multimedia innovator, has teamed up with NVIDIA to bring new in-vehicle experiences to drivers and passengers.

The partnership was announced today by MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang at a COMPUTEX press conference.

“NVIDIA is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. The goal is to design intelligent and always-connected vehicles for the future,” said Tsai. “Through this special collaboration with NVIDIA, we will be able to work together to deliver a truly unique platform for the compute-intensive, software-defined vehicles of the future.”

“AI and high-speed computing are driving transformation across the automotive industry,” said Huang. “His industry-leading MediaTek system-on-chip combined with his NVIDIA’s his GPU and AI software technology will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety, It will enable new connected services.”

Collaboration that transforms the automobile

This partnership will combine the best capabilities of each company to deliver the most compelling solutions for the next generation of connected cars.

Today, NVIDIA offers GPUs for laptops, desktops, workstations, and servers, as well as system-on-chips (SoCs) for automotive and robotics applications. This new GPU chiplet will allow NVIDIA to expand its GPU portfolio and accelerate its computing leadership across a broader market.

MediaTek develops automotive SoCs and integrates NVIDIA GPU chiplets featuring NVIDIA AI and graphics intellectual property into the design architecture. Chiplets are connected by ultra-fast and coherent chiplet interconnect technology.

Additionally, MediaTek will run NVIDIA DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and TensorRT software technologies on these new automotive SoCs to enable connected infotainment and in-cabin convenience and safety features. The partnership will give the automaker more in-vehicle infotainment options on his NVIDIA DRIVE platform.

Leveraging NVIDIA’s core expertise in AI, cloud, graphics technology and software ecosystems, combined with NVIDIA’s advanced driver assistance systems, will enable MediaTek to enhance the capabilities of its Dimensity Auto platform.

A rich heritage of innovation

The partnership will enable MediaTek’s automotive customers to bring state-of-the-art NVIDIA RTX graphics and advanced AI capabilities, as well as safety and security features enabled by NVIDIA DRIVE software, to all types of vehicles. According to Gartner, infotainment and instrument cluster SoCs used in vehicles will reach $12 billion by 2023.

MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto platform leverages decades of experience in mobile computing, high-speed connectivity, entertainment, and the broad Android ecosystem. The platform includes smart multi-displays, high dynamic range cameras, and Dimensity Auto Cockpit with audio processing support, allowing drivers and passengers to seamlessly interact with the cockpit and infotainment systems.

For more than a decade, automakers have leveraged NVIDIA technology in infotainment systems, graphical user interfaces, and touchscreens to help modernize vehicle cockpits.

By integrating NVIDIA GPU chiplets into its automotive products, MediaTek aims to enhance the performance capabilities of its Dimensity Auto platform and deliver the most advanced in-vehicle experience on the market. The platform also includes Auto Connect, a feature that allows drivers to stay wirelessly connected to high-speed telematics and Wi-Fi networks.

With today’s announcement, MediaTek aims to raise the bar even further for its automotive products, providing intelligent and connected vehicles that meet evolving customer needs and demands while providing a safe, secure and enjoyable in-vehicle experience. We aim to provide indoor solutions.
