- A panel of scientists and public policy experts will discuss artificial intelligence on February 10 in Oak Ridge.
- This free public event kicks off the fourth season of the “Our American Roots” series.
- The program will be held in Pollard Auditorium and will also be streamed live on Zoom.
A panel discussion featuring scientists and public policy experts examining the potential benefits and negative effects of artificial intelligence (AI) will be held at Oak Ridge on Tuesday evening, February 10th.
Titled ‘Rails, Radio and Artificial Intelligence’, the program will address the question: ‘What lessons can we learn from past experiences with disruptive technologies to prepare for the use of AI?’
Panel members include Stephen Strafer, director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Lynn Parker, Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Tennessee, former White House Deputy Director for Science and Technology Policy, and former founder of the AI Tennessee Initiative. William Lyons, professor emeritus at the University of Texas and associate director of the American Civic Institute at the Howard Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at Texas, and Ashley Stowe, principal investigator and director of university partnerships at Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
The panel will be moderated by Alan Lowe, executive director of the American Museum of Science and Energy and the Nuclear History Campus on the K-12 campus.
The 90-minute program is free and open to the public. This talk will be held in Oak Ridge Associated Colleges’ Pollard Auditorium, 210 Badger Ave. Refreshments will be served at 5pm and the program will begin at 6pm.
This conversation on AI will be the first of four “Our American Roots” presentations in 2026.
