Prime Video has never avoided bringing AI features to streaming services.
Last year we launched some new AI-powered updates. This includes recommendations and summaries generated by the new AI, as well as X-ray summaries, and uses artificial intelligence to provide a summary that will catch you to the point you last saw in a show or movie.
But it's just a corner of the generative AI Iceberg.
At yesterday's Prime Engage event, Prime Video showed off some AI features that are already implemented or currently deployed (H/T deadline).
I hope some of these, such as search suggestions and language dubbing, are just to improve your major video experience. However, there is one feature that Prime Video has shown off.
AI image quality boost isn't necessarily a good thing
In the report, Deadline revealed that Prime Video already helps improve content resolution and image quality using AI.
Tricia Lee, Director of Products and Data at Prime Video, said:
“We also see opportunities for AI-based remastering to convert standard defined content into high resolution. We believe this not only creates a high-quality viewing experience, but also retains creative intent and increases the value of. [an] SD catalog. ”
Reportedly, the focus of this feature is to improve live events that stream with uneven bandwidth that I don't have inherent problems. However, I have problems with AI being used Not checked To improve image quality of standard definition materials.
Unchecked is an important term there. There is no problem with AI being used to repair and enhance existing content. In these examples, humans can find it if the AI goes overboard along the improvements.
However, it appears that Prime Video's AI-Enhancement feature is running in the background. In that case, you are very concerned that the generator AI used will make unnecessary enhancements, or in some cases even hurt the viewing experience.
As someone who swears in filmmaker mode, this feels like the opposite.
