With AI permeating every sector, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has jumped on the bandwagon by using it to improve its citizen grievance redressal system and identify under-assessed properties to increase revenue from property tax.
“The PMC wants to leverage AI to ensure effective civic services to citizens by proposing the use of AI in various portals. This will provide easy access points for citizens and facilitate analysis of data in policy making,” said Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram.
road construction plan
Over the past few years, traffic jams have been occurring regularly in Pune, with commuters wasting time and money traveling. To address this, the PMC has aimed to increase the road network in the city. City authorities will use GIS and AI to analyze traffic data and plan and monitor roadworks through the city’s urban mobility cell.
Complaint management
PMC is developing an AI-based complaint management dashboard system. The system will have two trained personnel in each of the city’s 15 ward offices responsible for registering and managing complaints. Through this system, complaints are automatically forwarded to the respective departmental personnel, ensuring prompt response to complaints. Conduct weekly reviews with each department to improve quality and speed of remediation. This initiative will ensure that citizens receive transparent and prompt service.
DBT portal
The AI-based Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) portal is being developed to deliver government scheme benefits directly to eligible beneficiaries in a fast and transparent manner. By leveraging AI, you can more accurately verify beneficiaries, analyze data, and screen out ineligible beneficiaries.
increase profits
Property taxes are a major source of revenue for PMCs. However, despite rising inflation, property tax rates have not increased since the past eight years, despite increased spending on development projects and the provision of civic services. The main focus was on identifying illegal and unassessed properties that were subject to taxation. “The civic administration, with the help of AI, will identify illegal and unassessed properties for tax from data available from various government departments such as power companies, telecom companies, Aadhaar records, water boards, etc.,” said Srinath Bhimale, chairperson of PMC standing committee.
training center
A dedicated technical training center will be established to ensure that AI and information technology are used effectively in PMC’s daily operations. Through the center, municipal employees will receive training on the latest digital tools, data management, e-government systems and AI-based work processes.
